Today was our orientation at UCC. It was really long and started at 9:30, so we left the apartments around 8:50 to make the 20 min walk to campus and to make sure we found our way correctly. Once we got there, we were divided into groups which we would be in for getting out Student ID's and going on a campus tour. During the morning session, we learned about how to register for classes and listened to short presentations from professors of different departments.
We then had a two hour break with which we went and got our student ID cards, took a campus tour, and stopped into the dining hall for some coffee and lunch. I surprisingly still haven't been offered tea from anyone except my roommate, because she likes it so much; they all seem to drink a lot of coffee too.
We headed back to the lecture hall to listen to a few more speeches about the clubs and societies (sports and clubs) on campus and how to register with the Garda (the police) since we didn't have to get visas. Someone from the Chaplincy came and told us about the events that they plan and we had a very short speech on safety. After that we all went in and logged into our computer accounts and learned how to connect to the wifi.
They had a small symposium where you could talk to the department heads if you had questions about certain classes, and then we headed back to the apartment for a quick snack. After that we ran up to the store and just finished making a great dinner of chicken, broccoli, and rice (the first meal we have actually cooked in our apartment). It was a bit difficult to figure out how to start the oven, but we got it figured out. It tasted great!
Now we will probably look into what classes we want to take and when they will be held, and maybe meet up with some other people from the group later tonight.
